Maternity Services

How will our Maternity Services support you?

Congratulations and welcome to Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) Maternity Services.

Pregnancy and birth are normal life events, and our aim is to promote a nurturing environment for all women and their families. Our focus is on providing women and their families a healthy and positive experience during the pregnancy, birth, and early parenting journey.

Each pregnancy is a unique experience, and we believe that women are the decision-makers in their care. We are committed to providing care that is tailored to your individual needs.

Some pregnant women may need to have additional specialised care in a larger health facility during their pregnancy, however, in most cases, the care can be shared with your local maternity service. It’s important to contact your local service, so the midwives can get to know you and work with you so that you and your baby receive the best care in the right place and at the right time.

Getting in contact

We welcome you to get in touch with us to book in your first antenatal visit. We encourage women to visit us for their first appointment before 14 weeks gestation.

We have antenatal, birthing and postnatal care available in several locations across the Local Health District. See map below.

For pregnancy and postnatal care in the Yass Valley and Bombala areas, outreach services are provided in collaboration with SNSWLHD Maternity Services for Birthing.

Consumer factsheets

All of SNSWLHD Maternity Services are Level 3 and our Neonatal Services are Level 2. Information about what services and care are available at these levels read the Consumer Factsheet NSW Health Level 3 Maternity Services and/or the Consumer Factsheet NSW Health Level 2 Neonatal Services

Maternity and COVID-19

Maternity services at our facilities follow COVID-19 recommendations. Our staff will be using appropriate personal protective equipment. For women presenting for maternity services, their partner or designated support person is permitted to attend and visit the hospital.
