Menu Review Service

Early childhood education and care services participating in the Munch & Move® program in Southern NSW Local Health District can request a free assessment of their Service menu.  Southern NSW Local Health District Munch & Move® Support Officers will assess your menu against the Caring for Children guidelines, and provide a certificate for your service.

Regulatory Requirements

Under the Education and Care Services National Regulations (78–80), if a childcare service provides food and drinks, the food and drinks must be nutritious and adequate in quantity, and take into account dietary requirements appropriate to each child’s growth and development needs, and any specific cultural, religious or health requirements.

An accurate weekly menu must be displayed at the service. Policies and procedures about nutrition, food and beverages, and dietary requirements must also be in place.  Munch & Move® provides a sample nutrition policy can be adapted for your service's use.

Caring For Children

Caring For Children – Birth to 5 years (Food, Nutrition and Learning Experiences) is a best-practice resource for services that provides guidance and support for services to meet their regulatory requirements.

The resource provides practical information to Cooks, Directors and Educators to meet the food and nutritional needs of children in early education and care services. The resource provides information consistent with the Infant Feeding Guidelines, Australian Dietary Guidelines and the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating.
