Southern NSW Local Health District Chief Executive Awarded Medal of the Order of Australia

Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) staff, executive and board congratulate Chief Executive Margaret Bennett on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division (OAM) – for service to medical administration.

Ms Bennett joined SNSWLHD as Chief Executive in March 2020. She had previously held the position of CEO of Northeast Health Wangaratta in Victoria for nine years.

Ms Bennett’s health career spans 40 years and three Australian states. Her broad-based clinical background includes senior executive appointments in health and hospital services in NSW, Victoria and Western Australia with a proven track record as an experienced, capable, highly visible and successful health leader.

Beth Hoskins, SNSWLHD Board Chair, says Ms Bennett’s exceptional leadership and significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of local communities exemplify the very best Australian values.

“Margaret has steered our communities through the most challenging crises in recent memory. Her list of achievements is long and varied. We are incredibly fortunate to have Margaret as our Chief Executive, and I am personally grateful for her wisdom, tenacity, and commitment,” she says.

The Order of Australia recognises achievements which benefit or bring honour to the Australian community. Appointments to and awards in the Order of Australia confer recognition for outstanding achievement and service.

Presentation of the insignia of the award will occur at the investiture ceremony planned for later this year.
