Relief for health care transport and accommodation costs for local and isolated patients

Accessing healthcare for people living in rural and remote communities across the Southern NSW Local Health District can involve travelling significant distances. The NSW Government Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme (IPTAAS), can help those eligible with compensation to help cover costs.

This initiative help provide financial assistance towards travel and accommodation costs for patients needing to travel long distances (minimum of 100km one way, or at least 200kms in a week by making multiple trips) for specialist medical treatment that is not available locally.

IPTAAS also provides subsidies for private vehicle travel, public transport (trains, buses and taxis), air travel (in special circumstances) and accommodation. In some circumstances the cost of having someone to support you during travel may be also reimbursed.
