LOCALS KEEPING OUR COMMUNITIES COVID-19 SAFE

Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) would like to thank businesses who continue to work with the District to help keep local communities safe. The District has been on the ground throughout southern NSW, talking directly with business owners about their COVID-19 Safety Plans.
In June this year, the NSW Government launched an education and compliance program to help businesses and the community develop and implement COVID-19 Safety Plans and the related public health measures. The COVID-19 Safety Plans assist businesses to protect staff, customer and visitors against transmission of COVID-19 in the community. Officers from NSW Police, Office of Liquor & Gaming, Safe Work NSW and local Councils also assist with the program.
“The District has local Environmental Health Officers walking the streets and visiting local businesses to ensure they have the right measures in place”, said Tracey Oakman SNSWLHD Director of Public Health.
“We’re very aware of the stigma and also the reputational damage that can stay with a businesses if they’re associated with a COVID outbreak, which is why we’re working with them throughout the District to ensure they have the right measures in place”.
Since the program started, NSW Health has performed more than 3000 inspections across the state, with 226 being carried out throughout southern NSW. Of the visits throughout the local health district, 50% were found to have COVID Safety Plans in place, while 52%
recorded to be practicing safe physical distancing, wellness of staff, hygiene and record keeping outcomes.
“Overall, the response to visits by our Environmental Health Officers has been very positive, with businesses and organisations understanding the need to play their part in keeping the community safe and to help protect their reputation”.
“The response to our Officers working with local businesses has been very welcoming and we’d encourage all businesses to check to see what COVID safety measures they need in place”.

Not all businesses are required to have a COVID Safety Plan. Currently only activities listed in Schedule 1 of the Orders and Community Sporting Activities with greater than 20 person must have plans.
